Hazel River Backpacking, 2014

In April, we took a backpacking trip to the Hazel River area of the Shenandoah. We hiked about 8 miles in, and 6 out. We started from Skyline Drive and hiked east, so the there were more downhills the first day and uphills the next day. There were many stream crossings. A number of scouts satisfied their Second Class orienteering requirement, and we broke into three patrols since some of us are working on our cooking merit badges. The weather was beautiful – not too cold or too hot, and the summer bugs weren’t out yet! This was a glorious trip.
