Scouts Earn Search & Rescue Merit Badge

Troop 233 Receives Training from Maryland Search & Rescue Team

Using a Stretcher to Transport a Patient

Reviewing First Aid Skills

Scouts from Troop 233 spent a recent weekend in Howard County with the Maryland Search and Rescue Team conducting the practical portion of the Search & Rescue Merit Badge

Search and rescue is like solving a mystery — looking for clues, and conducting a systematic search for the missing person. The Search & Rescue Merit Badge provides some of the basic in assisting professionals in search and rescue efforts. As part of the merit badge training, scouts learned about the Incident Command System, Incident Action Plans, and basic First Aid. All the scouts took an online course offered by FEMA focusing on Unity of Command, Common Terminology, Management by Objective, Flexible and Modular Organization, and Span of Control.

For the practical portion of their training, scouts worked on clue awareness, a mock search and rescue, and reviewed first aid and wilderness survival skills.

Our thanks to the Maryland Search & Rescue Team for their help, patience and cooperation!
